New England Picks by NASCAR Modified Driver Andy Seuss
New Hampshire Motor Speedway
(Editor's Note: Andy Seuss is a 23-year old racecar driver from Hampstead, NH. He is currently competing on the both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Southern Modified Tour. )
There are two places you have to hit for Speedeats.com when up here in my home area of New Hampshire.
The first is Sandy Point. Sandy Point is located in Alton Bay, NH right off of Lake Winnipesaukee. The area is a pretty popular vacation spot and where a lot of teams stay during New Hampshire Motor Speedway race weekend.
You want a good steak? This is your place.Sandy Point is a step above most of the places we'd go to, and a little more expensive, but the food is just phenomenal. They have the best steaks, lobster and seafood around.
The other is the Johnson Dairy Bar. The place is just awesome. They have great fried seafood plates including fried lobster. Now New England has a million little seafood places but I really think this is one of the best of all of those.
They also have a ton of great deserts although you might be too full to even think about that. I will say though, they have an awesome Ice Cream bar. Whenever I can fit in a little extra at Johnson Dairy Bar, I like to top off my visit with a Chocolate Frappe.
(Editor's Note: The frappe recommendation started an interesting conversation):
MD: "A frappuccino?"
ANDY: "No a frappe. A milkshake."
MD: "A milkshake is a milkshake. A frap is a coffee drink."
ANDY: "No, a frappe spelled with two "p''s" and an "e" at the end of it. In New England, that is a milkshake. I know that is only up here that we say that though. I didn't realize that until we raced in Mansfield, OH. I went somewhere and asked for a Frappe. They gave me a coffee drink. I said 'what's this?'
So make sure you get a milkshake but say "frappe". Ok?
We are really looking forward to the weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. As far as the Modified Tour this is my home track. It's always great to race in front of all of the people from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and be on such a big stage.
The weekend is pretty exciting. It starts early for me. I'll be a special guest as a part of race night at the Lowell Spinners baseball game in Lowell, Massachusetts on Wednesday night. I would join Speedeats for dinner that night but I'll be busy at the ballpark. Ryan Preece, Glen Reen, Joey Pole and Matt Kobyluck and I will be representing the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Camping World East Series.
I don't know who is going to throw out the first pitch? If it's me, I will shake off a few signs and bring the high heat. Actually, I should practice because it's been a while since I've thrown a ball. I know they plan on having us race go-karts and sign autographs for the fans. It should be a blast.
So check out those two suggestions for places to eat, come catch the baseball game in Lowell and if you are still hungry for some real good food, my mom always cooks the best food and brings it to the track so come on by!
(Editor's Note: Andy's mother, Bobbi Seuss has been feeding MD at short track's for years. She is quite the cook!)
