"Mad" Marion MacDonald is a hero of mine. I never saw him race but there is a reason for me liking him so much. While racing on the beach one year Mario got his nickname for a yummy reason. "I grabbed a hamburger for my pit crew and still made the turn," said Marion.

I WANT A REAL SANDWICH... PLEASE!!!
I'm sick and tired of these wimpy commercial sandwiches and subs that people try to pass off on me. Really? You call that a sandwich. I need to vent...   click here

The Garlic - The Giant Bowl of Meat!
A short drive from Daytona International Speedway sits a unique little Italian restaurant.  The Garlic has become a hidden favorite of many in the NASCAR racing industry. Their outdoor seating, garlic lined walls highlight at atmosphere that is as amazing as their food.

The name says it all. If you are a vampire, do not enter. If you love great Italian food, it's a Daytona area MUST.  Enjoy heaping plates of great italian food in a quaint atmosphere.

The Spuntitori Italiano, aka... the Big Bowl of Meat.  MD had it in February and loved it. The Garlic is a favorite if Racing Electronic's Kevin Hughes. Spotter Frank Bolter went to the place for the first time after seeing the speedeats video in February and loved the place.

"I had the Bocce Ball (giant meatball) and it was amazing," said Frank.  "It might be my all-time favorite place to eat on the road."

Racing's North Turn
The food is good, the ocean-front deck is breathtaking, and the racing history is tops.  It's a mini Hall of Fame of NASCAR and Daytona Beach Racing.  In two-trips during 2010 Speedweeks we saw Cotton Owens dining and listening to his grandson play live music as well as Legends Bobby and Donnie Allison eating the restaurant that stands at the original North Turn of the Beach Course.

MD says get the Mad Marion Melt, named after beach racer and racing folk legend Mad Marion MacDonald.

Stonewood Grill and Tavern
Great steak and seafood at a nice sit-down ambiance. best describes Stonewood. The restaurant is so good it has locations open all over Florida now.  Stonewood is a favorite of SPEED reporter Bob Dillner.

The Brickyard
Best Burger in town and in an awesome building just minutes from DIS on International Speedway Blvd. Television's Perrin brothers (Patrick and Scotty) have hyped this local eatery for obvious reasons. Oh, it's the big triangle building in case you didn't know!  JJ Yeley was there when we tried this local legend in February.

SUGGESTIONS?
Daytona has a ton of good places to eat. We have our favorites... how about yours? Let us know by posting on our facebook or emailing speedeats@gmail.com

GUARANTEED FIREWORKS
Make sure you get a ticket to the July Daytona race weekend. Since NASCAR has let the boys police the racing more, the bumping and banging is back.  Will this excitement carry over to Daytona? Either way, you'll see fireworks if you go. After the checkered flag falls, the fireworks display in the sky at DIS is impressive.

4th of July Plans?
If you are back in NC go check out the Kannapolis Intimidators play a night game with a fireworks show. It's fun for the whole family. MD and Mike Herman are usually grilling in the parking lot at spot F-1 before and after the game.

At "Our Deck Down Under" you can enjoy some amazing fresh seafood while dining on the water under the Port Orange Bridge. The food is tops and the view at sunset is as well.
Daytona July NASCAR Weekend
MD and Guest Picks!
Our Deck Down Under
Best Seafood around and great atmosphere. Everyone knows and everyone goes!  Enjoy peel n' eat Shrimp under the Port Orange Bridge. Fried Seafood platters are the best around.

It's a place that MD tries to hit multiple times during any stay in the Daytona area. Make sure you hit "Our Deck Down Under", not to be confused with another seafood place right next door with the word Deck in it's name.

Squeaky Cheese in Wisconsin

Driving down the road with some cheese curds from the Wisconsin Cheese Mart in Milwaukee, it dawned on me how amazing the tasty treats are. The squeaky sound had to be captured. I couldn't believe it actually worked!
